O Eixo do Jazz

Music lovers and musicians who want to support music and musicians.

In the summer of 2016, Galician saxophonist Diego Alonso said in an interview with Cristina Marvão:

(…) and I saw that there really is an incredible musical quality in the north of Portugal, which with the jazz scene that has existed in Galicia for 10, 15 years (…) my question is: how come we don’t mix more? (…) I have the vision of someone who travels up and down every week, I am a Galician musician living in Porto. I think there should be a much more… not Iberian, but Galician connection.

Diego’s comments on the connection between Galician Jazz and Portuguese Jazz and Cristina’s observation that musicians on both sides of the border continued to have to work more than just music to survive, led to the creation of this association.

Eixo do Jazz, a Luso-Galaic association for the promotion of Jazz, is a non-profit association, created by several people who like jazz and who intend to promote Portuguese and Galician jazz, create a greater connection between both and support musicians in the areas of organization, officially founded on October 27, 2017.
